Aim    
To enable participants to develop the knowledge and skills to explore a query, looking at options for a person/family on a social welfare payment and the consequences of additional income.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • outline how social welfare payments may be affected as a result of other income for those unemployed, suffering from an illness, parenting alone or retired.
  • explain entitlement to health services, and loss of entitlement to medical card as a result of income changes.
  • advise the client of the schemes available through the Community Welfare Officer for persons in receipt of welfare payments.
  • explain the taxation of social welfare payments
  • explain how tax credits, reliefs may be transferred to spouse.
