To brief participants on the recently introduced Fair Deal Nursing Homes Scheme and to refresh learners' knowledge of the Medical Cards Scheme.

• explain the main features of the Fair Deal Scheme
• outline the application process
• outline the care needs assessment process
• explain the ancillary state support feature.
• explain how the Medical/GP Visit Cards Scheme works
• understand the application process and means test
• outline the appeals process.
