Aim    
This training is to enable experienced Information Providers to deal with more complex immigration cases and to update them on recent policy developments in this area.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this training course participants should be able to:

  • explain how migrants can achieve permanency in Ireland by applying for long term/permanent residency and/or citizenship and of recent changes to the naturalisation process
  • outline the implications for parents of Irish children of the recent European Court of Justice ruling in the Zambrano case
  • explain the rights and entitlements of family members of Irish citizens and all other migrants living in Ireland and the implications for these of the Civil Partnership Act, 2010
  • state current Irish immigration policy regarding international students
  • explain the issues facing migrants who have been made redundant as a result of the economic downturn, e.g. seeking alternative employment, becoming undocumented, applying for social welfare, etc.
  • use up to date information on all aspects of immigration policy in Ireland.
