Aim    
This training is to ensure that information providers can deal effectively with all queries on State Pensions and are aware of the changes due from April 2012 onwards.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • explain the general conditions for receiving State Pension (Transition) and know that it will cease to exist from January 2014
  • calculate the rate of State Pension (Contributory) due from the information contained on a person's PRSI record and know of the changes to the PRSI requirements from April 2012
  • outline the rules governing the payment of Qualified Adult/Qualified Child rates and pre-entry credits
  • calculate a Mixed Insurance Pro-Rata Pension or a EU/Bilateral Social Security Pension
  • explain the Tax Exemption system and its importance in computing the tax liability of older people
  • calculate the new Universal Social Charge as it is applied to persons under/over 70 years and to medical card holders;
  • list the extra payments and secondary benefits that may be available to pensioners, subject to certain conditions.
